When you can’t go on vacay, live vicariously through uber-cool chick, Alice McGenniss-Destro, right? Not only does she provide #inspo on her blog Catwalk of Words, girl also knows a thing or two about travel. Read on for her packing, beauty, food, and style on-the-go tips. All we can say is actual GOALS.
WHERE SHE WENT:
Paris, London, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Berlin and New York.
WHAT SHE PACKED:
My denim cut-offs, black overalls (my staple street exploring outfit), cropped tanks, and a few dressy playsuits and maxi dresses. I also packed my Polaroid camera, iPhone, round frame sunglasses, a few novels and a straw boater hat.
HER IN-FLIGHT ESSENTIALS:
My skin is quite dry, so I try to board the plane wearing no makeup and then lather on moisturiser every few hours while I’m in the air. Just before landing, I apply BB cream to my face to put a bit of colour back into my complexion. I also like to stock up on magazines and rainbow mentos!
WHERE SHE STAYED:
Each city was different. I had friends living in London, so I was lucky enough to stay at their place and live like a real Londoner! I also braved a few hostels (they’re really not that bad!), but my favourite was the Airbnb apartment that I called home in Paris for two weeks. It was located in the Latin Quarter and the magical view from the balcony was totally worth the six flights of stairs up!
WHERE SHE WORE:
During the day, I liked to explore the city in denim shorts or my go-to black overalls. At night, if we were heading out for dinner, I would opt for a shift dress or playsuit with backless ankle boots. The advantage of traveling around Europe during summer is that you can pack way more clothes, and you don’t have to worry about heavy jackets or snow boots!
TRENDS SHE SAW:
Lots of ‘70s-inspired pieces- think flared jeans, fur jackets, patterned maxi dresses and suede mini skirts.
WHAT SHE ATE:
Wayyy too much cheese and macarons in Paris. Lots of Spanish Tapas in Barcelona. And I’m totally guilty of eating bagels and pretzels for breakfast in New York.
HER BEAUTY ON THE GO:
I always carry Lucas Papaw (for dry lips), BB cream, bronzer and mascara.
HER STAND OUT MOMENT:
Ah, there were so many! But my favourite moment was when my friends and I were plucked off the street and placed in the audience of the Ellen DeGeneres season premiere at the Rockefeller Plaza. During the show, we were seated just a few metres away from Amy Schumer, Pink and Hilary Clinton!
WHAT INSPIRED HER:
The little things inspired me; trying new foods, discovering hidden cobblestone streets and vintage stores, practicing my French when ordering food in Paris, all while meeting new and old faces along the way.
TIPS FOR FIRST TIME TRAVELLERS:
Pack one pair of really comfy shoes because when sightseeing you will be doing A LOT of walking! Always try to halve what you’ve packed because you will acquire new clothes or souvenirs on your travels. Lastly, tie a coloured ribbon onto the handle of your suitcase so it’s easy to spot at the airport!
